Kettering 6-2 Ely
Kettering stay top after hitting Ely for 6
The benefit of a cheeky midweek friendly was apparent as Kettering tore into Ely from the start and effectively closed the tie out in the first fifteen minutes. Grant Carlin
slotted home after good work from Dom Cusk. Lewis Pywell
then doubled the lead before Carlin’s second put the hosts into a comfortable three goal lead. Ely gained a foothold in the game with a well converted short corner but Kettering instantly hit back when a Carlin aerial found a Pywell one on one with the keeper and Pywell duly doubled his daily tally.
Ely came out in the second half trying to disrupt Kettering’s free flowing style and this lead to a very disjointed half with numerous players taking temporary suspensions. Kettering skipper Ant Paton was first to go for a mistimed tackle and was followed by Pat Cawley shortly followed. Cusk capped a fine performance with a deflection from a fierce Carlin shot and left back Richard Lashbrooke
made it six following an excellent advantage. Ely saw two players yellow carded along with the hosts Paul Donnelly
. Ely pulled a consolation goal back but Kettering ran out worthy winners against one of the more organised teams in the league who usually concede less than two goals a game.
Next week Kettering are at home again to Spalding 2nds.
