Cransley Hospice

Cransley provide care for patients with a life-limiting illness who need the specialist help of hospice care.

This care takes in all aspects of the person i.e. physical and mental heath, spiritual and social care (holistic care) and is available in the hospice building (inpatient unit) and at home (whether this your own home, a care home etc.).

Cransley Hospice Trust is a local charity which every year provides funding to support the care provided by Cransley Hospice.

Sadly, we probably all know someone who has gone in to Cransley and are aware of the fantastic work they do in very difficult circumstances.

Elliot Groom

Elliot, a student at KSA, has cerebral palsy, this affects both his legs and means he struggles to walk normally and often trips and falls. From the age of 4yrs Elliot has worn AFO splints on both legs these are hard plastic splints to try and correct his walking and stop him from walking on his tiptoes. Unfortunately these splints are very uncomfortable to wear and have caused bllisters and rubbing to his feet on many occasions and now is unable to tolerate wearing them.

Elliot has been trialling Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) for the last 2 months. FES gives an electrical stimulation to the muscles in Elliots legs making them contract and work "normally"; as a consequence Elliot is now able to walk more easily and has not tripped or fallen since wearing them.

FES is not freely available on the NHS and he requires 2 units one for each leg.

Kettering Mind.

Continuing our support of mental health and well-being charities, Kettering Mind is your local mental health charity. They believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone, so they are here for you whether you’re stressed, depressed, in crisis or just want someone to talk to. They’ll listen, give you support and advice and fight your corner.

Hardly anyone expects to go through life without experiencing physical problems, from colds to serious illnesses, and in the same way almost everyone faces challenges to their mental well being. These can range from short periods of stress caused by life events to longer lasting conditions.

For 1 in 4 people these challenges can prevent them from living their lives to the full. Kettering Mind works to promote and enhance mental well being and supports anyone in Kettering and surrounding areas who is concerned about mental health. Kettering Mind seeks to empower people to lead a full life as part of their local community.
