Nothing crooked as Kettering roar into semi finals

Kettering stormed into the semifinals of the Tier 3 Over 50s Cup with a comprehensive victory against Chesterfield. Kettering beat Chesterfield 3-0 last season and after the first twenty minutes it looked like the result would be going the same way. Geoff Elliott seized a rebound and fired high into the roof of the net to open the scoring. Tim McDowell reacted quickest to a loose ball in front of goal and doubled the hosts lead. Tom Sellers was on hand to complete fine approach play from a Neil Freeman to give Kettering a comfortable 3-0 half time lead. Although Chesterfield had plenty of possession they struggled to make inroads into the Kettering D. Scott Mulligan capped a fine individual performance when he was on hand to finish after McDowell’s cheeky lob was only parried by the busy Chesterfield keeper. Kettering saw out the remainder of the game with few scares and now eagerly await the draw for the semi finals.
Skipper Tony Heath said “ it is a great achievement to reach the semi final especially as all our players are Club members and we have no guest players. We are the smallest club left in the Over 50s Cup but what we may lack in playing depth we make up for in commitment and playing for each other. We really are living the Over 50 Hockey dream”.
