Kane and Stones no match for McDowell and Sellers

While England continued their exertions in Russia Kettering wrapped up a 2-0 series win against local rivals Bedford courtesy of a brave each from Tim McDowell and Tome Sellers backed up by Geoff Elliott and Scott Mulligan.
With veteran veteran Bill Greenwood on international over 75s duty youngster Nick Cusk was drafted in from his Caribbean bean counting and the unavailable Nigel Parkes (did we receive a note from school for his absence?) was replaced by proper youngster Don Coleman.
Kettering’s aim to keep possession was completely ignored for the first ten minutes but once they got into a rhythm a goal was on the shimmering horizon, with the heat and sunshine rendering any pass left impossible Kettering persisted Down the right and a cross from Paul Brooker was fired home gleefully by Tim McDowell. Tom (I scored for the first team, don’t you know) Sellers continued his Indian Summer of goalscoring with a neat finish. 2-0 at the break. The Tim/Tom axis both scored again in the second half and a harsher critic may have suggested some jug avoidance going on in the second half. Geoff Elliot coolly finished the fifth and Mullers lifted home the sixth.
Bedford fully played their part, both on and off the field, in an entertaining summer series, which has the potential to become a regular feature on the calendar.
Kettering will now rest up ready for another tilt at EH Tier 3 success in the coming season.
