Kettering came from behind to score a last gasp goal through Nick Cusk to secure a 2-2 draw with England over 65s as the visitors prepare for their forthcoming summer campaign of international veterand hockey.
The game started with both teams struggling to take control having been inactive for months. England took the lead when a shot rebounded of the post and fell kindly for a waiting forward to bundle the ball home. Kettering rallied and replied when (slightly underage) Mark Hawkins finished a scramble in the D. Before the break the visitors increased their advantage when a short corner found its way through Nick Cusk on the post.
The second half saw England up the ante and control the game but Kettering were dogged at the back and Cusk, Neil Freeman and Phil Rowbotham stood firm with Ludo Roder putting in a trojan amount of work in midfield. The visitors were unable to capitalise on their possession and territory and were left to rue their missed chances as with the last play of the game Kettering were awarded a short corner. Despite messing the first one up Kettering were awarded a second and this time Cusk made amends by firing home via a defenders stick. Honours even for the third straight year. Skipper Tony Heath was in bouyant mood afterwards as Kettering kept their unbeaten record in a fixture that is becoming a staple of the summer calendar.
