Kettering 2nds suffered at the hands of Daventry's pace and power as they stormed to a 5-0 by half time. Kettering restructured in the 2nd half and looked much stronger and organised and only conceded the one goal. Kettering lost their top goal scorer, Kirsty Smith, to illness just before the start of the game and never really recovered from this. Captain Shez Coe made changes to accommodate this loss but this disrupted Kettering's normally well-drilled defence. Daventry capitalised on this confusion and were soon 3 - 0 up. Kettering tried to adapt but it took until half time, when they were already 5-0 down to really get organised and then get a hold of the game. The second half saw Kettering look like a different team. Louise Martin was tireless and tenacious in defence and kept their goal scorer at bay. Daventry did eventually score and also had a penalty stroke saved by GK Amy March, but Kettering should feel pleased with their second half performance. Kettering host Wildcatz on Saturday at KLV.
