Northampton Saints 2nds 2 - 0 Kettering 2nds

Kettering 2nds suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Northampton Saints 2nds in their final game of the season. Kettering travelled with just 11 players to face a strong Saints team looking for 3rd place in the league. Kettering were put under sustained pressure throughout the 1st half, but strong defending from the back 4 of Michelle Tanser, Louise Storey, Sophie Smart and Emma Storey, kept them at bay. Amy March was once again impressive in goal and despite the pressure Kettering did manage a few chances of their own. However with Kirsty Smith playing as a lone striker it was difficult to break through the deadlock. The 2nd half saw tireless work from Sue Russell in midfield especially when Louise Martin was felled by a lifted ball and had to leave the pitch nursing a black eye. With only 10 players Kettering continued to hold out but it proved too much. Martin did return to the field after lengthy treatment but Kettering had tired and Saints capitalised on this to snatch a goal. Kettering never gave up and continued to press forward as a team with what energy they had left. However, when captain Shez Coe lost the ball on the edge of the D pushing for an equaliser Saints counter attacked and got their second goal to seal victory.
