Kettering 2nds 3 - 2 Wooton Wanders 1st

Kettering Ladies 2nds started their league campaign with a hard fought win over Wootton Wanderers 1st team. Wootton started strongly and went ahead after a short corner strike that was going wide was deflected into the goal by Michelle Tanser, leaving GK Amy March and Louise Storey helpless to stop it. Kettering responded well and Helen Keyworth and Emma Storey combined well down the right hand side to provide lots of opportunities for the Kettering forwards. Jan Randle, stepping up from the 3rd team was faultless in defence and helped Chris Rowland-Jones on the left to give Kettering plenty of options in attack. Kirsty Smith eventually slotted the ball home from close range after the Wootton GK had saved a lob shot from captain Shez Coe to tie the score. Kettering continued to press and Smith got her second giving Kettering the lead. The second half saw Kettering starting where they had finished the first half and Keyworth provided her third assist of the season for Ellie Darnell to score. Kettering then had to weather the storm as Wootton started to dominate the game scoring with 10 minutes to go. Kettering also went down to 10 players as Tanser received a green card and was kept off the pitch for far longer than the expected 2 minutes. However Kettering stood firm and were not going to let the chance of a first league win of the season pass them by. Final score Kettering 2nds 3, Wootton 1st 2. Emma Storey was player of the match. Kettering travel to Wellingborough next week to play Wildcatz in a 4pm start.
