Wildcatz 1 - 2 Kettering 2nds

Kettering 2nds travelled to Wellingborough to face Wildcatz in their second league game of the season. Kettering had beaten Wildcatz 5-0 only a few weeks before in a preseason friendly. The game this time had a different intensity to it. Both clubs fielded strong teams and it was the defences that were on top for much of the first half. Kettering's back four and keeper Amy March were superb throughout supporting each other and preventing most Wildcatz attacks developing into real opportunities . Wildcatz, lead by their keeper Michele Collins, also kept Kettering at bay with some superb saves. Eventually just 5 minutes before the break Wildcatz broke through the Kettering's defence and took the lead. Kettering responded immediately from the restart with an attack down the right resulting in Kirsty Smith drawing the keeper before crossing for Helen Keyworth to slot home foe her first goal of the season. The second half continued in the same way with both defensive dominating, however Kettering's attack was the stronger and after a few short corners had been saved they eventually were successful when a strike from Shez Coe found the corner of the goal. Kettering were determined to hold out for the win and ensured the rest of the game was played out with Michelle Tanser controlling midfield.
