Kettering Ladies 2nds 4 - 2 Towcester 2nds

Kettering Ladies 2nd team hosted Towcester 2nds, who had run out 3-2 winners when the teams met before Christmas. Kettering produced some of their best hockey of the season in the first half and were rewarded early on when Ellie Darnell's well hit shot was deflected into the Towcester goal by a defender. Kettering continued to pass the ball around the Towcester defence with fine play between Emma Storey and Michelle Tanser. Kettering doubled their league when Shez Coe fired a shot through the Towcester keeper and then top scorer Kirsty Smith managed to get back on the score sheet, after a barren run for a few games, to give Kettering a comfortable 3-0 lead at half time. Roles were reversed in the second half as it was Towcester who passed the ball better and got a goal back early on. This gave Towcester the confidence to push forward even more and put Kettering under pressure. Louise Storey was yellow carded for a tackle on a Towcester forward and Kettering went down to 10 players. This made Kettering dig deep and Louise Martin regained a three goal advantage when she latched onto an aerial ball from Shez Coe at a short corner. Towcester though came again and got their second goal after a short corner breakdown. Kettering however were never going to give away their first half performance and fought hard to protect their lead. With only 30 seconds on the clock Martin received Kettering's second card of the game, a green this time, for a stick tackle. Kettering were pleased to hear the final whistle and left puzzling how they could play so well and easily one half and have to fight so hard for their win the second. Final score 4-2 to Kettering.
