Wildcatz 3 - 5 Kettering Ladies 2nds

Kettering Ladies 2nds produced their best performance of the season to beat top of the table Wildcatz in an 8 goal thriller. Kettering started well and took the lead when last years top scorer Kirsty Smith refound her goal scoring form. However Wildcatz came straight back to equalise. They then took the lead, breaking quickly after a Kettering’s attacking corner to catch Kettering out. While Kettering were still dazed by this Wildcatz took advantage to score again. Kettering regrouped and just before half time Helen Keyworth slotted home to get Kettering within touching distance again. The second half saw youngsters Harriet Drake-Lee and Imogen Smith dominant in midfield and work tirelessly to help Kettering create chance after chance, but Wildcatz strong defence was difficult to break down. The breakthrough came when Jill Livingstone delivered one of her trade mark crosses from the right onto the end of Kirsty Smiths stick. Smith rounded the keeper to draw Kettering level. Wildcatz came back again strongly but excellent defending and control at the back by man of the match Chris Rowland-Jones and two crucial saves by keeper Amy March allowed Kettering to compete and eventually seal the win. Felicity Goodliffe finished an excellent move started by Imogen Smith and Ellie Darnell and then Keyworth put the game out of reach for Wildcatz when she expertly put a lifted ball into the net. The win takes Kettering 2nds to the top of the Northants Division 1 table.
