Kettering Ladies 2nd Team ensured they stayed at the top of the table with a fine win over Towcester Ladies 2nd Team. In a game that was end to end and could have gone either way Kettering’s fine defensive work allowed them to always feel they would get something out of the game. Kettering got off to an excellent start when Harriet Drake-Lee made a powerful run down the right and then crossing the ball for Helen Keyworth to deflect in off a defenders stick. However for the rest of the half Kettering were put under immense pressure and player of the match, Amy March in goal, had to pull off a number of exceptional saves. Kettering did mount a few attacks of their own but Towcester were quick to snub them out. The second half saw Kettering continuing to defend as a team, with even centre forward Kirsty Smith helping out. Kettering finally got on the front foot again and after a number of short corners Ellie a Darnell finished coolly to double their lead. Kettering then put the game out of reach when Shez Coe scored from a corner. Towcester did get a consolation goal, which is no more than they deserved before the final whistle and must have been disappointed to play so well but come away with a loss. Kettering should feel rightly proud of another excellent team performance, showing a will to win and the determination to fight for each other and to never give in even when under great pressure. Ketteting travel to face Earls Barton next week.
