Kettering Ladies 2nds battled hard to ensure they maintained their unbeaten run in the league. Kettering took a hold of the game after 10 minutes when Harriet Drake-Lee began man to man marking Wellingborough’s main play-maker. This allowed Kettering to push forward and they were rewarded when Ellie Darnell finished coolly to give Kettering the lead. Felicity Goodliffe then doubled the tally touching in a Darnell shot. Wellingborough were allowed back into the game when a misplaced pass gave them a clear opportunity which they took. Kettering pushed on again and Michelle Tanser gave Kettering a two goal cushion again, firing home from a short corner. However as the first half came to a close Wellingborough finished a short corner to keep them in the game. The second half saw Kettering increase their lead again with Tanser collecting her second from a similar situation. Wellingborough came again and with six minutes to go pulling another goal back. Feeling a draw was possible Wellingborough pushed forward and substituted their GK for another onfield player. However fine defending by Drake-Lee saw Kettering come away with the ball with Drake-Lee carry the ball the length of the pitch resulting in a short corner for Kettering. Kettering kept their nerve and with Wellingborough without a GK they ensured that Kirsty Smith had a clean shot on goal to make the win safe for Kettering.
