Kettering Ladies 2nds 5 - 2 Wildcatz
Wildcatz tamed by Kettering
Kettering Ladies 2nd Team claimed an important win over Wildcatz, to keep them clear in second place in the table. Kettering started strongly and struck first when Michelle Tanser
fired home from a short corner. The goal was correctly ruled out due to it being the first shot from the corner and being well above the backboard height. Wildcatz replied with a goal of their own when Lizzie Thomas slotted the ball home from close range. Kettering responded with Helen Keyworth
crossing for Ellie Darnell
to expertly deflect the ball over Michele Collins in the Wildcatz goal. Kettering kept a tight hold of the game and Shez Coe
gave them a half time lead with a shot fired across goal. Half time 2-1. The second half saw Kettering continue to dominant and Imogen Smith
got on the end of a well-worked move as Kettering counter attacked from a Wildcatz’s attacking short corner. The ball was cleared to Coe, who moved it on quickly to Darnell, who fed Smith to get her first goal for the second team. Wildcatz’s however would not give in and had an excellent counter attack of their own with Jade Sartain running the length of the pitch, outwitting all of Kettering’s defence to score. With the score 3-2 Kettering of the past would have been in danger of panicking, but now with confidence in their own play and the team they were determined to make sure of the victory and Darnell capped off a good performance up front with a second goal. Smith then put the icing on the cake for her second half and man of the match performance with a second goal of her own as she lifted the ball over the keeper giving Kettering a 5-2 win. Kettering face their 3rd team at home on Saturday 1.00pm start.
