Daventry 5 - 2 Kettering Ladies 2nds

Kettering Ladies 2nds travelled to Daventry for a rearranged league game. Daventry started strongly and Kettering found it difficult to get out of their own half. Daventry’s pressure eventually paid off when they took the lead. Kettering continued to soak up attack after attack and only fine saves by Amy March in the Kettering goal and good defence work from a Jess Austin, Chris Rolland-Jones, Sue Russell and Jill Livingstone kept the score at one. Kettering began to get a foothold in the game and Helen Keyworth, Ellie Darnell and Harriet Drake-Lee were able to get down the wings. However it was at this time that Daventry struck again twice in quick succession to leave Kettering with a mountain climb in the second half as they were now 3-0 down. A change in formation saw Kettering start the second half with more purpose and direction and in no time at ll they had pulled a goal back after a fine touch from Darnell gave Kirsty Smith the opportunity to score. Kettering continued to push forward and Darnell then slotted home to make it 3-2. Kettering continued to attack freely as they went for the equaliser. Daventry defence were put under a good amount of pressure but held firm and after winning the ball were able to mount a fast break and Kettering suddenly found themselves 4-2 down. Daventry then got a firm grip on the game again and made the game safe by adding a fifth.
