Kettering Ladies 2nds hosted their 3rd team in Division 1 of the Northants league. The first meeting of the two teams had seen the 2nds come out as 4-0 winners. This was a much closer affair with the 3rds taking the lead before half time. The 2nds had started strongly but couldn't break down the 3rds strong defence. Saves by keeper Kate Metcalfe and fine defence work from Beth Hardy, Sophie Guyett and Julia Telford kept the 2nds at bay. The 3rd team attacks were limited but effective and it was from one of these that they broke and found the back of the net to take the lead. The 2nds regrouped at half time and scored soon after the break when Helen Keyworth crossed for Shez Coe to shoot across goal to find the far corner to tie the game. The 2nds continued to press forward and Coe got a second to take the lead. The 3rds never game up and Natalie Irons and Eleanor Izzard in midfield disrupted the 2nds attacking flow. The game could have gone either way with the 2nds missing chances to increase their lead and the 3rds having a number of short corners that were scrambled away to prevent the draw. The game showed how far the 3rds have come from the4-0 loss last time to giving the 2nds a real scare this time.
