Northampton Saints 3 - 3 Kettering Ladies 2nds

Kettering Ladies 2nd Team travelled to Northampton to face Saints 2nds who played last season in the league Kettering have been promoted to. The game started well for Kettering with some fine attacking play and Becky Richardson coming close early on. Saints however took the lead, against the run of play, after firing home after their initial short corner shot hit the post. Kettering continued to press with some fine runs down the left by Mandy Starmore-Young. They were eventually rewarded when Shez Coe slipped the ball through to Maria Higgins who found the back of the net. Higgins was on target again when in a similar move Felicity Goodliffe found Coe who again picked out Higgins to get her second and give Ketteting the lead at half time. After the break the game was very even with both teams attacking freely. Linzi Webster worked tirelessly in midfield but Saint got their reward and tied the game. Straight from the restart the ball was passed to Harriet Drake-Lee who made a strong run down the right before entering the circle and scoring giving Kettering the lead again. Kettering continued to push forward and were caught in the final few minutes when possession was lost when attacking and with many Kettering players caught upfield Saints broke quickly leaving little Kettering’s defence could do to stop them scoring making the game 3-3. A fair result on the balance of the whole game, but probably poor game management from Kettering and something they will need to learn from as they go into the Midland league. Kettering host Towcester 2nds on Saturday at Bishop Stopford Schoolat 10.00am in their last but one pre-season matches.
