Kettering Ladies 2nds travelled to Newark hoping to improve on their 11-0 defeat the week before. Kettering started the game with just ten players as Jill Livingstone was stuck in traffic. They immediately were up to the pace of the game and played much more like a team used to this level of hockey. Unfortunately a short corner on 14 minutes led to them going behind despite defending well as a unit. A second goal did follow before half time, but with Kettering up to 11 players and playing well it was a positive start. The second half saw Kettering continue to compete with Mandy Starsmore-Young and Jodie Barber combining well in central midfield. Kettering’s defence stood firm with Isabel Ringrose, Sue Russell, Louise Storey and Livingstone alongside keeper Amy March ensuring all Newark’s attacks came to nothing. It was Kettering who got the next goal when Shez Coe released Helen Keyworth down the right. Keyworth crossed the ball for Felicity Goodliffe to open her scoring for the season with a clean finish. Unfortunately Newark came straight back and caught Kettering with a fine solo run to give them the match 3-1. Kettering learnt a lot from their defeat last week and it was clear to see much improvement had been made as a team. Ketteting face Nottingham Uni 2nd team at Bishop Stopford School at 1.00pm this Saturday.
