Derby 4 - 0 Kettering Ladies 2nds

Kettering Ladies 2nd team travelled to Derby to play a posponed game from a couple of weeks ago. The first meeting of the teams in the league had seen Kettering lose 14-0 as they played them in their first league game in the higher division. Kettering were determined to not let the same thing happen again and they started defensively allowing possession to Derby in their own half but picking the ball off as Derby tried to attack. Derby found this difficult to deal with and got frustrated as the half went on. Kettering had limited possession of the ball in attack but were happy to stop Derby scoring and wait for this chance. Derby got their breakthrough just before half time to give them a 1-0 lead at the break. The second half saw Derby continue to be frustrated but with Kettering building more attacks. Derby however eventually got their reward for their effort and doubled their lead. Kettering still felt there was something in the game for them and when Shez Coe released Lucie Freeman for a clear run on goal the Derby keeper came out and took Freeman out. A penalty was awarded to Kettering but no further action on the keeper was taken. Jill Livingstone step up to take the stroke but it went wide. Kettering continued to press and felt much more confident in their play but Derby were to have the last word with two penalty corners converted in the last two minutes to make the final score 4-0. The result and more importantly the performance showed how far Kettering had come since that first league game and the beating that had endured.
