Kettering Ladies 2nds 0 - 6 Loughborough Students 3rds
By Shez Coe
Ketteting keep going to the end!
Kettering Ladies 2nds finished a tough season with a 6-0 defeat at home to Loughborough Students 3rds. Loughborough arrived with a fit, young squad of 16, with a number of their players playing their last game for the university before leaving and all keen to enjoy and be successful in their final game. Kettering started strongly and set up well defensively. Amy March
once again played well in goal and player of the match Evie Wharf
was strong in her tackling showing why she was promoted from the 3rds since Christmas and has kept her place. Loughborough eventually broke the deadlock half was through the first half and then Kettering struggled for the next ten minutes conceding three more. The second half saw Kettering play some of their best hockey this season and the development of the younger players, Gracie Gault
, Lucie Freeman
and Ellie Mulligan
was pleading to see. The final score was 6-0. Kettering return to the Northants Devision 1 next season after learning and having to adapt very quickly in the Midlands Feeder East league. It is a credit to the squad that they were able to bring new younger players in and every week ensure they learnt from the games and never lost heart. Next season should allow these younger players to move on again and push towards the first team and the squad as a whole to play their more attacking game in a league much more suitable to their standard.
