Match Report – 23/01/16
Kettering 3’s vs Kettering 4’s
4-1
This was an even match throughout with most of the action taking place in the middle of the pitch, and both teams displaying some excellent shots on goal. At the beginning it took both teams a while to really get into the game and to work as a team, particularly due to a slightly different combination of players compared to usual, however we all adapted very well; some very quick and effortless passes were made between Elana Freedman and Ellie Darnell in a determined push forward. Soon enough, after a successful short corner for Beth in Kettering 3’s, they were 1-0 up.
Undeterred by this, the opponent responded swiftly, scoring an equaliser directly afterwards. Both teams now appeared to be very focused, and again some lovely tackling took place in the centre, especially from Eleanor Izzard and Claire Jones, allowing Kettering 3’s to make some powerful runs down the wings. Following this, a further two goals were scored by Ellie Darnell and Natalie Irons.
Unfortunately, just before half time, Laura Newlyn sustained a nasty injury to her face after being hit by the ball, so was unable to play on. After the loss of a few players, Kettering 3’s demonstrated perseverance and managed to hold off the other team; Ellie Darnell was even able to score a final goal, to secure a win for Kettering 3’s.
We would like to wish Laura a speedy recovery, and hope that she will be able to join us again very soon. Well done ladies, this was (for most of us) a great game to kick off the second part of the season with!
