Oundle 1st 3-0 Kettering 3rds

KETTERING LADIES 3RD TEAM v OUNDLE 1st TEAM
Saturday 10th November 2018

Oundle opened strongly and put Kettering under intense pressure for the first ten minutes of the game and the defence Ellie Mulligan, Kate Randle and Charlotte Cattell were forced into early action. Skilful defending ensured a clean sheet as they defended wave after wave of attacks from the strong Oundle forwards. Anything finding its way past the defence was ably dealt with by Kate Metcalfe in goal.

Kettering gradually settled into the game and made telling inroads into the Oundle half themselves with Kate Randle and Julia Telford distributing the ball with precision to their midfield. Outstanding work from Megan Newlyn and Simran Kaur enabled Kettering to get the ball through to their forwards with Ola Bednarczyk making many penetrating runs into the Oundle “D” which left the Oundle defence totally stranded. Hard work from Natalia Bednarczyk and Claire Jones saw them getting close to latching on to a number of good crosses but they were denied by a packed defence and the useful Oundle goalkeeper.

Oundle had slightly more of the play in the first half and stepped up their attack. Good interchange between their forwards pulled the Kettering defenders out of place and the resulting slack marking led to the first Oundle aerial goal. Kettering regrouped and worked hard to break down the Oundle attack but unfortunately two more goals were to follow before the break.

Not to be outdone Kettering showed great spirit as they opened the second period with numerous forays into the Oundle half. Great pick-ups and distribution from Liz Metcalfe playing in her new role in centre mid kept Kettering in the game as she skilfully distributed the ball to Ola and Natalia. Our very young forward line was joined by Gracie Gault who made an outstanding contribution to the team showing great skill and endless running up front. An exceptional debut performance.

With Kate Randle and Julia Telford controlling the centre of the field and some incredibly hard and skilful work from Evie Wharf in defence Oundle struggled to find a way through. Wave after wave of attacks from Kettering managed to penetrate the Oundle “D” but despite their very best efforts they could not find the back of the net. With so many players going so close Kettering were disappointed not to score what would have been a well-deserved goal.
The determination and commitment from all players today could not be faulted.
