Kettering 0-4 Wellingborough

Defensive errors let down the hard working skipper.

On what saw many seasons of weather in the first 10mins of the game, the Kettering side allowed too many errors in defence allowing the visitors to come away with a win.

There were many many excellent sections of play from some of the younger players in the team, especially from man of the match Georgie Jones.

The away side pressured from the start and were too skillfull and quick for the defense at times allowing three on one attacks on skipper, Kate Metcalfe, who held her own under immense pressure.

Just before the half time whistle the away team scored from a slipped short corner through Claire Jones and unreachable by Metcalfe.

The second half started bettter after a team talk by Kate Randle. The defence got much better with passes being tunnelled through to the waiting midfileders of Meg Newlyn, Jones, Lin Leach, Simran Kaur and Lydia McCarrick. After some thought and time the forward line of Immi Mitchell, Bibby Metcalfe and Kiera Cox was altered to push McCarrick forward and bring Metcalfe B into a centre position. This worked very well and facilitated the play to be distributed to the forwards. After the away goalie came all the way out to the edge of the D, Mitchell and McCarrick got round her when a defender threw her stick in the way of birthday girl Lydia. After a quick conversation from the great umpires, a penalty stroke was awarded. It was struck by Julia Telford who failed to miss the away goalie.

There was a plethora of short corners in the second half and first runner Charlotte Cattell was asked to take a walk to the half way when she broke early. The resulting short was well defended by Janny Randle, Telford and Jones. Some more lax marking then resulted in 3 more goals for the away team. Final score 4-0
