Every single lady who played today gets man of the match. Effort from the whole team was superb and concentration levels were high.
From the outset it looked like the home team, who are top of the league, were out to score as many goals as possible, but the Kettering team put them in their place. The first half was bereft of goals and this was thanks to the superb shepherding by captain and goal keeper Kate Metcalfe who was guiding play through the back line of Liz Metcalfe, Janny Randle, Julia Telford and Claire Jones. This allowed the midfield to move and make spaces, Lydia McCarrick and Simran Kaur worked so hard to distribute the ball to the wingers and forwards of Megan Newlyn, Imogen Mitchell, Keira Cox, Lin Leach, Natalia Bednarczyk, and Georgie Jones. Kate R did another superb job of subs today, it was so slick that there was no break in continuity.
The second half saw the home team come at pace again using all thier mids and forwards to put kettering under the cosh. They gained a goal from some slick passing. Not deterred Kettering took the game to them and were awarded a couple of short corners, the bouncy pitch being the undoing of a great routine. Another push in the last 10 mins from Saints saw them slot a corker of a goal onto the side board of the goal. They kept the pressure up right to the last whistle when they missed a corner routine and Janny pushed the ball out of thr D.
A super effort from all involved, bring on the next game!
