Ladies 4th 4-2 Oundle 2nds
Ladies off to a flier
The Ladies 4ths started their league campaign on a bright and sunny morning against Oundle Ladies 2nds.
There was an air of optimism having drawn in a friendly to the same team the week before and this grew as Miranda Jackson, on her 13th birthday and playing her first game for the club, opened the score for Kettering with a superb reverse stick movement. A second goal from Miranda soon followed.
Oundle rallied and put pressure on Kettering's defence who held strong with good cooperative play between the defenders. The group of Caroline Fanthorpe, Abbie Hofbauer and newcomers Rachael Carlin, Evie Wharf and Lisa Smith worked really well together, keeping a strong formation as they substituted in and backed up by some good saves from goalie Laura Beswick.
At half time Kettering held the score at 2-0 but back on the pitch Oundle attacked hard and managed to pull a goal back before a third goal with was again fired in by on form Miranda.
Kettering were unfortunate to let a weak Oundle ball over the line but came back rapidly with Miranda again finding the net, this time with drag flick off a penalty corner. So at full time the score stood at 4-2.
This was a very positive start for a newly formed team whose dedicated captain Sig has just stepped down but we did her proud.
