Kettering Ladies 4th team took on Saints 4 this week in a closely fought game, where Kettering had most of the possession but couldn't translate it into goals. In the first 20 minutes Kettering dominated completely with the well controlled passing in the midfield and a couple of strong strikes from Miranda Jackson just not quite finding the target. A surprise break away from Saints gave them a goal against the run of play so that the score stood 1 - 0 to Saints at half time. Shortly after the break good forward play with some excellent runs down the wings paid off when Ellie Mulligan received an accurate pass from mid-field and powered all the way, knocking over an opposition player close to the back line and somehow finding the narrow angle to score.
The play continued to be very even and Kettering were unlucky, with players tiring a little in the unseasonal heat, to concede two further goals in the last quarter of the match. A final score of 3-1 didn't feel like an accurate representation of the strong performance and effort put in by all the team. It is, however, still early in the development of this new team and there continues to be progress and signs of potential for improving results as the season progresses.
