Kettering 6-1 Wootton 3rds
4ths hit Wootton for 6
The ladies 4ths turned out for their friendly against Wootton on a blustery autumn morning.
From the first push back Kettering dominated the game and following a sustained attack were rewarded with a first goal from an accurate cross from Debbie Richardson, part of a mother and daughter combination playing their first match for the club. Marie Donnelly was well positioned on the post to push the ball over the line.
Continued pressure resulted in lots of shots on goal and many a goal line scramble, which turned into four goals. These included a hat trick for Ola Bednarczyk, who demonstrated determination and a hunger to score and the other from Becky Richardson who was in a similar frame of mind.
At half time Kettering were in the unusual position of being in front by five goals and continued to play strong attacking hockey into the second half but for a long period they could not add to their goal tally.
Then half way through the second half Wootton were awarded a corner and managed to get the ball into the net with a lifted shot. Kettering immediately upped the pace with some great forward runs by Becky and Jen Mason forging forward from defence to make some strong attacks on goal. Becky was eventually rewarded with her second goal of the match following a solo run down the wing and a positive reverse stick strike.
This was the fourths second win of the season. The team is putting together some great passing play and growing in confidence, so we look forward to further successes in league matches in the coming weeks
