Kettering 4ths 2-0 Towcester 3rds
Kettering give Towcester a grilling.
Kettering Ladies 4ths faced a strong Towcester side to whom they had lost 8-0 in a pre season friendly. The team know they have improved beyond measure since the beginning of the season so they started with their usual sense of optimism, willing to see how the game would unfold.
The whole game was a fairly fought, even match with both teams determined to win but with no sign of a crusty atmosphere from either team!
Towards the end of the first half, when Kettering had put together some excellent attacks which they were unlucky not to turn into goals, there was some goal line activity in the Kettering D. A clear from the Towcester goalie found captain Lin Leach in some space and able to drive the ball on the angle into the back of the net. It was unusual to go into half time winning and Kettering knew they had to keep strong and not crumble during the second half.
Similarly the second half was evenly matched. The only real threat of Kettering being burnt came in a scrabble when the ball hovered in the goal mouth, but Evie Wharf kept her composure to push it away and Jen Mason made sure it was well cleared away. This was swiftly followed by a great slice through the opposition with build up from Becky Richardson and Lin Leach, finished by Megan Newlyn who crossed the ball beautifully enabling Pam Farr to slip it into the back of the net.
Kettering maintained their strong play, with every player giving it their all up to the last whistle, determined not to let the Towcester pop up before the end. To their relief and joy the game finished without further threat and Kettering were rewarded with their second league win of the season.
The team headed to the clubhouse for a celebratory tea voting goalie
Anna Pringle player of the match.
