Kettering 2-2 Rushden & Higham
Great comeback ensures a point
The ladies 4ths faced strong opposition today from second in the table Rushden and Higham.
The previous meeting had been close fought although it ended with a win to the opposition but Kettering, with an ever improving team, and the advantage of opposition not at full strength, started full of confidence. The young forwards, Ola Bednarcyzk, Becky Richardson and Megan Newlyn, were frequently threatening in attack but could not score and we were disappointed when the defence were caught off guard and Rushden scored a weak goal.
Unfortunately things continued not to go according to plan and by half time Rushden were two goals up with Kettering unable to get on the score sheet.
After a half time talk and some sweets to raise the team spirits, Kettering resumed play with a new determination and a strong second half ensued. Sweeper Jenny Mason was repositioned to the attack and Kettering were soon rewarded with a goal from captain Lin Leach. This was the tonic Kettering needed and a second was scored from the hard working Ola who made a magnificent finish from some good team work in the circle.
With only minutes remaining Kettering were the dominant side and pushing for another goal but time ran out However the team was pleased with the 2-2 draw and with the fighting spirit shown. It was a great team performance all round with Becky Richardson and Marie Donnelly in particular working tirelessly throughout the game.
