Kettering 3-1 Towcester
Great result against Towcester
Towcester 3s, Saturday 24th March
The ladies 4ths were relieved to be playing their penultimate match on a mild spring morning in contrast to the freezing conditions of last week. Results against Towcester have been mixed with both teams winning one of the two previous meetings this season, so Kettering knew it would be a close game which we could win if we played our best.
Kettering started strongly from the first push back and that set the tone for the match. The experience the team has developed in playing together over the season was clear to see. The midfield and attackers pushed forward and shortly before half time Kettering were rewarded when Ola Bednarczyk made an excellent run and gave Anika Steffens an easy finish in front of the goal.
Kettering continued to have more of the play in the second half, although Towcester threatened the Kettering goal on a number of occasions. Then, in a mirror image of the first goal, Anika Steffens beat a number of defenders on an excellent run forward, providing Ola with the opportunity to finish in front of the goal. Finally Pam Farr was rewarded for her persistence in the circle when she scored a third goal for Kettering.
Towards the end of the match Towcester began to string some strong attacks together and managed to pull a goal back from a short corner but the game ended with all the points going to Kettering. Probably one of our best team performances of the season, bringing us just one point from third place in the table.
