Kettering 0-3 Saints 3rds
Kettering give rampant Saints a proper examination.
Kettering Ladies 4s faced tough opposition this Saturday in top of the table Saints 3, who have not dropped a point all season and have notched up a goal tally of 83 goals, including 10 in our last meeting with them. This was definitely a test of just how much our team has improved over the season.
Kettering demonstrated that improvement with some intelligent passing and excellent team work through the first half. The two sides were evenly matched, Kettering had a number of near miss shots on goal and only an unfortunate goal trickling over the line behind the Kettering goalie separated us at half time. Saints stepped up the pace in the second half and scored with a strong strike from a penalty corner in the first ten minutes. Still Kettering kept their heads and maintained the work rate; a number of excellent attacks were mounted with Ola Bednarcyzk and Ann Sogbohodla using their speed down the wings. However, the very experienced Saints defence proved just too solid to breach. Kettering defence, including a particularly strong performance from Jen Mason, held off the Saints attack for the majority of the play. A penalty stroke was then awarded against us as a certain goal was cleared off the line with a back stick and the Saints player put it away expertly.
This was a competitive match where Kettering held their own and the final score of 3-0, the best result of any team in the division against Saints 3 this season, was a reflection of the great progress which the team has made since the start of the season.
