Kettering hosted Chester in the semi-final of the Ladies Over 45 National Cup on Sunday. With a large crowd gathering Kettering knew they needed to give a good performance. Chester started the better side putting Kettering's defence under pressure with GK Michele Collins called into action throughout. Eventually the pressure resulted in Chester getting the opening goal on 17 minutes with a lob shot. Kettering continued to fight throughout and when Mandy Starsmore-Young received the ball in midfield she created space before passing the ball into the path of Kirsty Smith. With lots to do still, Smith shook off the attention of two defenders before coolly slotting home across the Chester GK. Chester were not to be beaten easily and took the lead again just before half time. 2-1 down at half time. Kettering came out strongly in the second half determined to take the game to Chester. The equaliser came from Shez Coe who after winning the short corner then drag lobbed into the far corner. 2-2 game on. Kettering the took control of the game with Smith scoring with a trade mark finish from close range before Starsmore-Young capped a fine performance with two goal of her own. Kettering now face Cambridge City in the Cup final on Saturday 30th April at Lee Valley, the Venue for the Olympic Hockey at London 2012.
