Kettering Over 45s 10 - 0 Stourport Over 45s

Kettering Ladies Over 45s played Stourport in the first round of the Vintage Cup. After getting to the final last year Kettering wanted to put on a good display for their travelling supporters. Kettering started well and dominated midfield with Linzi Webster and JuliaTelford in charge. Stourport however stood firm and began to build a few attacks of their own. Kettering's defence however were always in control even when Dusty Mason was off the pitch after receiving a green card. Kettering eventually got the break through they deserved and Kirsty Smith started her goal scoring fest. She added a second with a lovely chip over the keeper and then Shez Coe reverse stick shot found the back of the net after a fine cross from Sandra Manzuik making it 3-0 at half time. The second half saw Kettering improve on their free flowing hockey with Smith completing a double hat trick and Lizzie Thomas marked her debut with a trade mark goal. Coe also went on to complete her treble with two strikes both into the roof of the net resulting in a final score of 10-0. It was an all round excellent team performance with the man of the match going to right midfielder Helen Keyworth, whose fine attacking runs were fed by Jan Randall and Louise Storey in defence. Sue Russell on the left hand side was superb through out and could take credit for assists in a number of the goal. Stourport battled well throughout the contest, their first in this competiion, and the game was played with a good spirit throughout.
