Kettering Ladies marched into the last eight of the Over 45s England Hockey cup competition with a solid display against local rivals Bedgord. A Kirsty Smith hat trick assissted by a Mandy Starsmore- Young goal ensured Kettering continued the success they have had in this competition over the last few years. Bedford did manage a consultation goal just before the end of the game. Kettering started well with Smith rounding the keeper on 4 minutes to give them the lead. However they were unable to build on this lead despite tireless work from Pam Farr in midfield. The second half saw Kettering double their lead almost immediately with Starsmore-Young getting a well-deserved goal before fine work in midfield from player of the match Cath Irvine helped Kettering create a number of other scoring opportunities. Smith was on hand to put two of these away to complete her hat trick and Kettering looked firmly in control. However Bedford suddenly started to put some attacking moves together and were rewarded with a goal on 69 minutes when a shot was deflected pasted keeper Kate Metcalfe.
