City of Peterborough Over 45s 1 - 3 Kettering Ladies Over 45s

Kettering Ladies Over 45s travelled to Peterborough to try and gain a place in the last 8 of the Over 45s plate competition. Kettering started strongly with good attacking play down both wings by Helen Keyworth and Mandy Starsmore-Young. Eventually the deadlock was broken after 8 minutes when Kirsty Smith scored from close range after a scramble in the D following a short corner. 1-0 at half time. The second half saw Kettering double their score when down to ten players. With Linzi Webster green carded Kettering soaked up pressure and then hit Peterborough on the break with Cath Irvin down the left finding Smith in the D. Smiths initial shot was saved by the keeper but Smith pounced on the rebound lifting it into the net over the keeper. This forced Peterborough into action and they got a goal back from a short corner. Kettering pushed forward again and Shez Coe received the ball in the D, and after taking it round the keeper slipped the ball to Smith to knock it into an empty goal to complete her hat trick and ensure the victory was Kettering’s. Smith has a final chance to get her fourth but after rounding the goal keeper her shot was blocked by a defender. Kettering look forward to see who their draw in the quarter finals.
