Boys and girls fight to secure 13th place!

Kettering boys played in the morning and although they only had 7 players they put their absolute all in to every game. Kettering played Stone first in the pool in which they drew 0-0 although were only an inch off of a goal with an attempt by James Kay. In the other pool games they continued to fight hard but lost 4-0 to Worcester and 2-0 to Burton. They then went on to play off for a position in which the boys fought well scoring a opening goal in the first game against Ashby (Zak Toms) however they unfortunately lost 3-1 after 3 Ashby break away goals. The boys built confidence from this with the determination that they wanted to reach the highest playoff match that they possibly could. They completed this comfortably with a 1-0 win against Worcester (Zak Toms) and a 2-0 win against Warwick (Zak Toms-1, Ernie Jackson-1) meaning that they finished the tournament in 13th place. The boys developed massively through the tournament and if they would have had regular practice at this level it is certain that they could have dominated most of the tournament. Team- Josh Kean, Isaac Kean, Ernie Jackson, Zac Toms, James Martin, James Kay and Edward Perry.

The girls played after the boys with results in a similar pattern. As Leek did not turn up the girls only played two pool matches (Losing 3-0 against Beeston and Losing just 1-0 to Telford) in addition to an automatic win. This took the girls through in 3rd place to play Shrewsbury which resulted in a 0-0 draw leading to penalty flicks, the girls had never experienced this before and even though they put in a great effort they lost 2-0. This then put them against Leek meaning that they got an automatic win which lead to them playing Newark in the final game with Poppy Smart scoring the winning goal on the final whistle making the girls also finish in 13th. With the two abandoned games Kettering were unfortunate as they didn't have as much time to develop unlike the other sides although the girls continued to work hard and fight for results. Team- Charlotte Bennett, Lucy Tanser, Ilana Jacobs, Molly McBride, Poppy Smart, Gemma Freeman, Jane Sigbodhla and Rose Starsemore-Young

Many thanks to Sophie Smart (Manager), Emma Storey (Coach), Nathan Thomas (Umpire), Amy March (Photographer) and all parents that supported throughout the day especially Neil Freeman and Mandy Starsmore-Young for helping to coach the girls.
