Kettering push R&EW all the way
An unfortunate loss
A wet and overcast Bishop Stopford School saw Kettering Girls U12 take on Rugby and East Warwickshire Boys U12 in a closely contested match.
R&EW made a lot of the early running and created a great deal of pressure in and around the Kettering area, the pressure eventually led to a R&EW goal when Kettering didn't properly clear the ball and the Goalie was beaten by a good strike. More pressure followed and only some excellent Goalkeeping skill by Sophie Bennett who had an excellent game throughout kept the score at 0-1. Kettering then created their own spell of pressure when persistence and tenacity led to 2 short corners but Kettering were unable to capitalise and were punished by a sharp break and found themselves 0-2 down.
There was a very long team talk at half time, and what ever was said certainly paid dividends. Kettering played a higher tempo game in the second half and enjoyed a lot more possession and created more chances, a goal finally came when Rose Starsmore-Young showed a true goal poachers instinct to finish a move started by Izzy Jaszczun. At 1-2 down Kettering continued to create chances and pressed for an equaliser but were finally punished when R&EW scored with just about the last touch of the game to win 3-1.
It was a good performance by the Kettering Girls who will have learnt a lot by playing a skillful team and it bodes well for the rest of the season.
