With only 2 teams entering Kettering fly through to the next round despite the loss!
Kettering Hockey Club Girls under 12s gathered at a chill, foggy Bishop Stopford for a game against their local rivals from Northampton Saints and confirm their progress into the Midlands In2hockey regional finals. After a comprehensive warm up, the team looked determined to perform well but instead found themselves under a great deal of early pressure. A series of Northampton attacks were repelled due to a combination of excellent tackling and a series of fine saves by Sophie Bennett in goal but eventually the pressure told and a well worked short corner routine by Northampton saw them go one up. A second goal followed when Kettering failed to clear their lines and despite some good work by Poppy Smart, Natalia Bednarczyk and Georgia Brophy Kettering found themselves 2-0 down at half time.
The half time team talk had a galvanising effect on Kettering and a much better half of hockey ensued. A series of good combinations between Ilana Jacobs Izzy Jaszczun, Jane Sigbodhla and Molly McBride led to a number of good attacking moves but Kettering couldn't find the net. Solid work at the back by Gemma Freeman and Lucy Tanser snuffed out most of Northamptons attacking threat but Hockey can be a harsh sport and after Ketterings best passage of play they conceded a third goal after an fast breakaway from Northampton.
3-0 was the final score, Kettering had acquitted themselves well and all agreed that at the end of the day, when all was said and done, Hockey was the winner.
