Aging legs undone by a youthful team.

Whilst Mens 3's were wrapping up the league with their 6-0 win at home, Mens 4's travelled over to cambridge to face Nomads 3's who were sitting one place above them in the league. The last game between the two sides ended 2-2 but should have been a victory for 4's. The diificulty in facing Nomads is that you just don't know what team you are going to face. Unfortunately on this occassion 4's faced a team of skill, speed and youthful vigour.

Nomads spent most of the game passing the ball around the experienced Kettering side creating overloads at just about every attack and ensuring that the beleagured defence didn't know whether to stick or twist. Kettering were fortunate that the scoreline was not worse. Only against our own third team and against a dubiously strong City of Peterborough 7's side have 4's suffered this season. If Nomads could be more consistent on their home selections and be better travellers they will surely be challenging for the league title next year.

4's did manage the odd attack but any resultant corner just didn't result in a clear shot on target. The usually reliable Heath/Brooker combination just didn't fire.

The consulation goal came late in the second half when a Nomads attack broke down. The ball for once was cleared and played up filed with a bit of pace catching the Nomads defence flat footed. The ball found it's way to Tim McDowell in the D who was forced wide by the recovering defence. Tim then slipped, but as he went down like a sack of spuds he managed to hook the ball back across the top of the D for Lee Paris to swoop and tomahawk the ball into the roof of the net.

Small consultation for a tired performance.

However, 4s still retain aspirations to reach 4th place in the league. next up is a revenge match against CoP 7's. Any positive result will stand them in good stead for the final game against St Ives 4's who curently hold the 4th spot.

Congratulations to the 3rd team in being Champions, the 4th team take some pride in the fact that we played a small part in their success and helped a number of the younger 3rd team players to come through and establish themselves in the higher team. Good luck for next year and the fresh challenges you'll face.
