Shaken but not stirred

Kettering 1st team traded goals with their second string in a curtain raiser for the new season and the celebrate ClubFest, hockey's annual get together. Starting brightly Mark "sure shot" Hawkins opened his account and a Grant Carlin short corner gave a comfortable two goal lead. With a new attacking style gaps were left at the back which were exploited by the tenacious seconds who pulled on back and equalised just before half time.
Defensively rather disorganised but still attacking well The game was taken to the seconds and another Carlin goal restored the lead. Hawkins bagged another before the 2s pulled another back. With the seconds tiring their tackling became a little ragged as the last period became the Lewis Pywell show as the youngster notched a hat trick of penalty strokes and an open play goal. The seconds still had time to score a consolation to make it 8-4. Mention must go to 2s goalie Matthew Coe who produced a string of outstanding saves.
A ding dong end to end game which bodes well for both teams attacking intent but work to do going backwards. The seconds team look in good shape for their campaign in the East league after a couple of difficult seasons in the Midlands and the first team look to be a real threat going forward and look forward to scoring some goals.
Target for the year is more goals scored and less goals conceded.
