Kettering shook of the Christmas excess with a battling friendly performance against old foes Atherstone. An even start saw the adders draw first blood and then doubled their lead before Grant Carlin scored to make the half time score 2-1. A slight change in formation saw Kettering dominate the early part of the second half and Carlin scored again to make the game level. Mark Hawkins then deflected home a goal bound shot "just to make sure" and denied Carlin a New Year hat trick. This does however keep leading goal scorer wide open. Despite having a couple of players green carded Adders scored an equaliser when Phil Rowbotham turned in a short corner. Late on Paul Donnelly had a great chance to seal the win but his goal was disallowed. For a first game after the break Kettering can take a lot of positives especially the way they reacted to going behind. All in all a good work out prior to next week's top of the table clash that sees Cambridge City visit fortress KLV.
