Kettering put in an excellent performance in their first midweek friendly as they beat local rivals Oundle 4-3. Playing a composed passing game the visitors asserted their authority in the first half wih goals by Ben Mills, a Paul Donnelly penalty ,after good work by Dom Cusk, and a rare Ross Mathieson effort. Young Jack Bridges was unlucky with a shot that cannoned off an upright.
The second half saw Oundle dominate the play and unmarked Brown coolly lobbed keeper Barry Coe. Untidy short corner defending ( something for training) allowed Oundle to further reduce the defecit and set up a grand stand finale. Fortunately Kettering scored through 'old' new boy Pat Cawley with three minutes to go but poor game management allowed another short corner to make the final score 4-3.
Skipper Ant Paton was delighted with the overall performance. Young Ed Jennings produced a commanding man of the match performance on his first team debut against a side that Kettering traditionally struggle against and sets them up nicely for this weekend's trip to Saints.
