Kettering unable to break visitors resistance.

Kettering opened their pre season with an introduction of four new players against old adversaries Leicester Westleigh. On a balmy afternoon Kettering played most of the hockey but were unable to force a result against stubborn opposition.
Kettering, under new skipper Grant Carlin, bossed the opening ten minutes but could not make a breakthrough. As the first third drew to a close Westleigh launched a counter attack and opened the scoring with a two on one. Early in the second third Westleigh again countered and took a two goal lead. Content with their afternoons work Westleigh somewhat parked the bus and as much as Kettering hammered away they were unable to break through until a Jamie Dodd aerial into the D was expertly dispatched by Lewis Pywell. Pat Cawley saw green and was joined by a couple of Westleigh players. The third ‘third’ saw Kettering completely dominate possession and territory but only had a disallowed Dodd short corner to show for their efforts.
The stats showed that Kettering dominated most of the key areas, 31 circle penetrations to 15, 15 shots to 8 and 14 short corners to 4 but it is the goals column that decides the winner and in that department Westleigh obviously won.
The game enabled Kettering to give starts to new boys Mike Crane, Luke Linford, Jamie Dodd and man of the match Jacques Lourens. Settling new players into a team is always difficult and Kettering will come on leaps and bounds for this outing. They travel to Oundle on Wednesday night for another friendly.
