Kettering concluded their pre season with a comprehensive victory against Rugby 2/3 who provided the stiffest task Kettering have faced so far. Without regulars Pat Cawley and Jacques Lourens Kettering still took a 16 man squad to Rugby emphasising the strength in depth that the club now has. Kettering withstood an early Rugby onslaught as their quick forwards caused Kettering’s rearguard a few problems. Kettering struck on the break though when a superb cross field ball by Ed Jennings was collected by Dom Cusk who laid in skipper Grant Carlin who hammered the ball home. In an even first half Kettering scored again when a great through ball by Jamie Dodd was volleyed home by Andy Sellers. The second half followed a similar pattern. Lewis Pywell scoring to give Kettering an unassailable lead and Dodd completed the scoring with a short corner. Rugby had a chance to snatch an equaliser but a decent save by Barry Coe and all round good defending by a Paul Donnelly and Ross Mathieson secured a first clean sheet of the season. All bodes well for the visit of Bury St Edmunds on Saturday in the first game for Kettering in Div 2N.
