14 goal thriller not a great advert for defending.

Despite coming second in a 14 goal game Kettering can take lots of positives from a generally encouraging performance. The hosts, buoyed by the inclusion of their first team short corner specialist were always going to be dangerous opponents but Kettering were pleased to score 6 although obviously not so chuffed to let in 8.
Rugby opened the scoring when a ball was too easily allowed into the visitors D and a one two off the keeper saw the hosts off the mark. Kettering however had the lions share of the first half and opened up a 3-1 lead with Pat Cawley opening the scoring, Andy Sellers scored from close range and Lewis Pywell scored a great reverse stick shot. On the stroke of half time Rugby pulled a goal back through a fine overhead finish from a deflected short corner.
The second half saw Kettering experiment with their line up and this led to a slightly disjointed performance. They went 4-2 up when Dom Cusk scored only to virtually immediately see the score go to 4-4 with two short corners. Kettering kept playing forward and goals from Wallace Cairns and James Hogg put Kettering 6-4 to the good the latter following excellent chasing down by Cawley. Two more set pieces made it 6-6 and Rugby still had time to bag another couple to make it 8-6. Cusk had a goal disallowed that may have set up a grandstand finish as Kettering could have chased down an 8-8 draw! A Rugby forward saw yellow for a silly tackle late on.

Plenty to work on as Kettering face Dereham at home on Saturday looking to make amends for possibly their worst performance of the season when they travelled to the Fens back in September.
