European football brings the demands of long distance travel to places like Kazakhstan on a Thursday followed by an away game on Sunday. Nothing could prepare the pampered premiership prima donnas for an away game to Leicester. It only just down the road - manic traffic both going and coming back made it the longest day ever. Westleigh were straight out of the blocks putting Kettering under real pressure. This resulted in an early goal and Kettering were creaking. They established a foothold in the game after a Westleigh forward was yellowed for breaking the game down. Mark Hawkins had a shot well saved but the half ended with Kettering behind. Things went from bad to worse when two quick goals sealed the outcome. Kettering got a consolation through Lewis Pywell. 13 yr old Dominik Cusk made his competitive first team debut and coped well. Richard Lashbrooke also had a good game in midfield. A well umpired game and again Kettering can take some positives from a solid performance against a team who, if they had a decent short corner routine, would probably win this league.
