Cambridge South 2-1 Kettering

Kettering travelled to in form Cambridge South and fell to their first loss in 16 games.
In ideal conditions on a lovely new pitch with plenty of bounce Kettering could easily have gone three ahead when Dr. Mark Hawkins were unable to convert back post chances. South took the lead when a missed foot saw a forward free in the D and his completely mis hit reverse stick shot lobbed into the top corner like a sand wedge. Dom Cusk narrowly failed to convert a chance when his flick went agonisingly wide. Kettering levelled just before the break as Grant Carlin scored a trademark short corner.
The second half followed a similar pattern with possession being evenly shared but Kettering possibly having the better chances. Ben Isles took a nasty blow to the face in a committed challenge that may require stitching. The half seemed to be drifting towards a draw when a scramble in the D saw a South forward produce a reverse stick flick into the roof of the net. Kettering forced a flurry of late short corners but Carlin's radar was slightly off. South' large home support roared home a famous victory.
Without doubt this was probably the best game technically that Kettering have been involved in this season but means they now need to pick up points in all their remaining games to gain automatic promotion.
Next week sees a home game against a Bourne side who spoiled to a draw in the first round of games.
