All good things must come to an end.

It’s was unlucky 13th for Kettering as their 100% home league run stretching back 12 games finally came to an end. In a match up between two sides yet to be beaten this term something had to give.
Cambridge, relegated from 2N the previous year, are obviously keen to return at the first attempt but they were shocked as Kettering came flying out of the blocks and following a short corner Ross Mathieson was on hand to fire home. This stirred Cambridge into action and Mathieson then turned a cross into his own goal to square the scores.
Kettering then went behind as a short corner to the hosts was broken down and a swift counter attack saw City take the lead into the break.
Kettering had a chance to level the game but Paul Donnelly’s penalty stroke was saved and this gave Cambridge renewed effort and another breakaway saw their quality centre forward comfortably score. Kettering weren’t going to take this lying down and even with Lewis Pywell suspended they scored when Pat Cawley laid an easy goal on for Dom Cusk. Cawley then saw what looked like a good goal disallowed. A late short corner saw Cambridge put a gloss on their performance and move them to the top of the table.
Despite going down Kettering can take many positives from their recent performances and the progress the group have made over the last two years has been remarkable. Two years ago they would have been unable to live with a team like this but are now disappointed not to have gained a point for their endeavours.
Next week sees Kettering travel to Peterborough to face last year’s rivals Peterborough 5this in a 4pm start.
