Kettering fell short in their top of the table clash with March despite being the better side for much of the game and carving out numerous opportunities. It turned into one of those days when the ball just wouldn't go in.
March absorbed an initial Kettering onslaught and only fine goalkeeping kept them in the game. Against the run of play a swift breakaway saw March steal a lead when a rebounded shot was flicked home. Kettering still had the lions share of the first half but were unable to break their duck. Grant Carlin went close with a couple of short corners and the March keeper was kept busy.
The second half was more even and with Kettering pushing on gaps were always going to appear. From a short corner March scored with a neat routine and another breakaway saw them go three nil ahead. Lewis Pywell scored with ten minutes to go but despite plenty of possession Kettering were unable to undo the stubborn March defence.
On the balance of play a draw would have been about fair but Kettering can take heart from the fact that they didn't play particularly well and ran one of the better teams in the league close. The fact that March's goalie was man of the match gives an indication of the game. 4th place after 7 games is a good start to life in 3NW and Kettering will look to kick on again next week with a home time against Spalding 3rds.
