Over the last few seasons when club statisticians have been delving into the dusty tomes and ledgers that hold Kettering Hockey history it is usually to have checked when was the last time every side lost or is an 8-0 defeat by Newark the largest Sunday defeat in February.
This weekend saw a record as Kettering ran riot against Spalding 3rds to record what must be the Club's largest ever League win (citation needed Tom!).
Kettering welcomed back veteran defender Neil Freeman who was taken aback with the non stop onslaught inflicted on the visitors. Four nil up in ten minutes, nine nil up in 27!! Kettering then took a little breather before bringing up double figures before half time. With goals coming thick and fast your correspondent knows who scored but not necessarily in which order but the first half saw Jack Bridges grab 4, Grant Carlin and Lewis Pywell a brace each and Dom Cusk and Andy Sellers one apiece.
The second half saw more of the same as Kettering's scintillating approach play saw them bag another seven despite having a scoreless patch of 12 minutes mid half. Carlin added two more, Sellers got a second half hat trick, Cusk got a second and Mark Hawkins scored one late on to end the scoring at 17!!
Credit to Spalding who tried to stem the flow of goals and the club have some potentially very good young players but this was perhaps a league to high a year or two too early. Spalding's goalkeeper made some great saves to keep the scored down but on the day Kettering were just too hot to handle.
Next week they travel to Cambridge to play the City's Veterans team.
